Penny Harris

Her role is:

Workshop Leader. Penny is in charge of leading workshops she attends and this means she will meet all the children at their school before they come to a workshop.  At the workshop Penny tells the group about the activities.  It is her job to make sure everyone knows what the activities are, to make sure everyone is comfortable doing them, and to explain how they may help with different feelings.  After a workshop children will be invited to meet with Penny again to talk about how the workshop helped.

Her background:

Penny was a secondary school art teacher.

Her hobbies are:

Painting outside with oil paints, going to see art exhibitions in London and walking in the country.

Her favourite part of working at Slide Away:

Penny likes meeting all the different families that come to Slide Away and watching them make new friends and enjoy creating things.

How the other members of staff would describe her:

Penny is very organised and conscientious. She is calm and warm to be around.


Juliette Clarke

Her role is:

Workshop Assistant.  Juliette helps and supports the Workshop Leaders and children at the workshops.  She makes sure all the activities are ready when the group needs them, helps the children with the activities if they need help. 

Her background:

Juliette has been aware of Slide Away since 2006 when she and her children attended a workshop.  Juliette says she found the experience valuable at a difficult time in her life.  Since that time she has briefly engaged in the fun raising side, prior to her joining the Slide Away team in 2010 as a Workshop Assistant.

Juliette started an apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework, she then trained to be a hairdresser.

Her hobbies are:

Running, reading, graphology, socialising, needlework and having a go at different things and experiences

Her favourite part of working at Slide Away:

Juliette loves every minute of her time shared with the team and children.  She says "It's a wonderful experience and a priviledge"

How the other members of staff would describe her:

Juliette is really caring and easy to talk to.  She puts you at ease, makes you feel safe and makes you laugh


Diane Clark

Her role is:

Workshop Volunteer.  Diane helps and supports the Workshop Leaders and children at the workshops.  She makes sure all the activities are ready when the group needs them, helps the children with the activities if they need help.

Her background:

Diane is a part time Human Resources Manager and is a Care Volunteer with Demelza.  She has experience of losing a special person and wishes to help others by supporting Slide Away as a Volunteer.

Her hobbies are:

She likes spending time on fun days out with her two children and also likes to go to the gym.  She loves to take herself off into the country on long bicycle rides, but only in warm weather!

Her favourite part of working at Slide Away:

It gives Diane a warm feeling to see the children enjoying the activities and also seeing them comfortable sharing their time with other children in similar circumstances.  She considers herself very privileged to be part of the Workshop Team.

How the other members of staff would describe her:

Diane is a very caring person who is always ready to help people.  She really makes young people feel safe and comfortable.
